Instructions for Using Load Wheel Rollover Tester

Important Reminder: Before use, have a qualified professional or electrician properly ground the unit's grounding wire!

Using the mix ratio determined by the consistency test and demulsification time measurement as a benchmark, use this asphalt dosage as the median. Vary the asphalt dosage by 1% (by mass) for five groups to determine the appropriate mix ratios for aggregate, filler, additive, emulsified asphalt, and water. Weigh the dry aggregate required for each group according to the table below.

    Dry Aggregate Quantity Table

    1. Select a test mold of appropriate thickness, approximately 25% larger than the coarsest aggregate particle size.
    2. Pour the weighed aggregate into a mixing container. First, mix the aggregate, aggregate, and water. Then, add the emulsion and mix for 30 seconds before pouring into the test mold. Scrape the mixture flat in the test mold. When the mixture stops shifting, remove the mold. Then, place the mixture in an oven at 60°C ± 3°C for at least 12 hours to achieve a constant weight.
    3. Remove the specimen and cool to room temperature.
    4. Before the loading test, run the machine under no load for a test run. The trolley wheels must be aligned to ensure they are balanced with the frame during movement. The load box must be aligned to ensure its center of gravity is perpendicular to the wheel axle.
    5. For the wheel load test, the load box weight must be calibrated. To do this, place the wheel on a platform scale with the crank parallel to the frame. Adjust the counterweight to achieve the required weight of 56.7 kg.
    6. Install the specimen correctly on the test mold base and secure it with the nut.
    7. Clean the rubber wheel with solvent or water before placing it in contact with the specimen.
Note: For steps 7 and 8, use the lift handle to raise and lower the load wheel. Exercise extreme caution!
    8. Return the counter to zero, turn on the switch, and begin rolling at a frequency of 44 times per minute.
Note: For counter settings and operation procedures, see step 5 below.
    9. During the rolling process, some spots on the sample may become sticky or noticeably shiny. In this case, sprinkle water on the sample to prevent the wheel from sticking to it.
    10. After 1000 rolls, stop the machine and unload. Rinse the sample clean of surface particles and bake in a 60°C oven until constant weight is reached. Cool to room temperature and weigh (G1).
    11. Place the sand frame in the center above the specimen and secure it with a rubber band to prevent sand loss.
    12. Evenly spread 300g of 82±1°C standard sand in the sand frame. Immediately place the loaded wheel on the specimen and perform 100 cycles using the same load and frequency.
    13. Stop the machine, unload, remove the specimen, shake off any loose sand, and vacuum any remaining loose sand.
    14. Remove the sample and weigh (G2).
    15. After the test, be sure to remove the counterweight and store it separately. Otherwise, prolonged loading may cause deformation of the rubber wheel, shortening its service life.

Important Note: After completing instrument operation, please turn off the power switch and unplug the power cord!

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What is the main application of the Load Wheel Rolling Tester for Emulsified Asphalt?
A: This instrument is designed to evaluate the excess asphalt / binder bleeding potential and sand adhesion characteristic of micro-surfacing and slurry seal mixtures. By simulating the repeated rolling compaction of vehicle tires under standard loads, it determines the maximum asphalt content to prevent flushing and bleeding on pavement surfaces.

Q2: Which international standards and testing methods does this equipment comply with?
A: The tester strictly conforms to global slurry seal and micro-surfacing specifications:
ISSA TB-109: Test Method for Measurement of Excess Asphalt in Slurry Seal Mixtures by Means of the Loaded Wheel Tester (LWT).
ASTM D3910 / D6372: Standard Practice for Design, Testing, and Construction of Micro-Surfacing.
EN 12274-5: Slurry Surfacing - Test Methods - Part 5: Determination of Wear.
JTG E20 / T 0755: Standard test methods of bitumen and bituminous mixtures for highway engineering.

Q3: How is the wheel load applied, and can the load weight be adjusted?
A:Standard Calibration Load: Features a lever/mass loading system or high-precision pneumatic loader calibrated to apply the standard total force (typically 56.7kg / 125 lbs or customization as required by specific norms).
Consistent Contact Pressure: The rigid heavy-duty steel frame ensures stable force transmission without flex during reciprocating rolling cycles.

Q4: What are the key specifications of the rubber wheel and rolling mechanism?
A:Wheel Dimensions & Hardness: Equipped with a standardized rubber-tired wheel (hardness 60 ± 5Shore A) designed for high wear resistance and consistent deformation behavior.
Stroke & Speed: Features a controlled reciprocating stroke rate (typically 44 to 56 cycles/min with a stroke length of 300 ±10mm) to match standard testing protocols exactly.

Q5: Does the equipment include counting controls and automatic shut-off?
A: Yes. The unit comes equipped with an integrated digital counter and preset controller:
Automatic Stop: Operators can preset the target number of cycles (e.g., 1,000 cycles for standard ISSA tests).
Real-Time Display: The digital panel displays the elapsed cycle count and automatically stops the drive motor upon completion, ensuring high repeatability and unattended operation.

Q6: What sample molds and accessories are included in the standard package?
A: The standard package includes everything required to perform immediate laboratory testing:
1.Main Load Wheel Tester Unit & Motor Drive System
    2. Standard Rubber Load Wheel Assembly
Precision Steel Sample Molds (Standard sizes: e.g., 380mm*50mm* 6/8/10mm)
Standard Loading Weights & Calibration Weights
Sand Frame / Guide Accessories for Sand Adhesion Testing
User Manual & Factory Calibration Certificate

Q7: What routine maintenance is required to keep the instrument running accurately?
A:Rubber Wheel Inspection: Regularly check the rubber wheel surface for wear, cracking, or asphalt buildup; clean with compatible mild solvents after each test run.
Guide Rail Lubrication: Keep the reciprocating sliding rails clean and lightly lubricated to prevent friction resistance changes.
Calibration Check: Verify the total load force and stroke speed annually or after every 1,000 operational hours using standard calibration gages.
