Lab Electric Digital Oil Bitumen Wax Content Tester

According to the SH/T0425-92 "Method for Determination of Wax Content in Petroleum Asphalt" standard, the cracking and distillation method is adopted. The asphalt sample is first cracked and distilled to separate the wax from the asphalt. Then, the precipitated wax is processed and weighed through cooling, filtering, washing and other steps to determine the wax content in the petroleum asphalt.

    Instrument features

    - Accurate temperature control: Generally, high-precision temperature controllers and temperature sensors such as Pt100 are used. The temperature control accuracy can reach ±0.5℃ or even higher, which can ensure that the test is carried out at the specified temperature.

    - High refrigeration efficiency: Most of them are equipped with imported high-power compressors, such as 1.5 horsepower refrigeration power, which can cool quickly, and the average cooling speed can reach about 0.8℃/min. Deep cooling can reach -28℃ or even lower, which can quickly cool the sample to the required temperature.

    - Easy operation: The instrument is reasonably designed and the operation process is relatively simple. Some instruments also have automation functions, which reduces the tedious steps of manual operation, reduces the labor intensity of test personnel, and improves work efficiency.

    - Excellent material: The bath body is usually made of transparent glass or high-quality stainless steel. The former is convenient for observing the test process, while the latter has strong corrosion resistance.

    Operation method

    - Preparation: Pour industrial alcohol into the bathtub so that the liquid level is about 30mm from the upper cover, turn on the power switch, and set -20℃ on the digital temperature controller. Weigh 50g of asphalt sample and put it into the cracking distillation bottle, cover it with a cork, use a 150ml conical flask of known mass as a receiver, and immerse it in a beaker filled with crushed ice.

    - Distillation operation: Directly heat with a gas lamp or a high-temperature electric furnace, adjust the flame intensity or heating power, so that the initial distillation is achieved within 5-8 minutes from the beginning of gradual heating, and then continuously distill at a rate of 2 drops per second until the distillation ends. The entire distillation process must be completed within 25 minutes.

    - Cooling filtration: The distilled oil is weighed to 0.05g, and an appropriate amount of sample is taken out and added to a 100ml conical flask of known mass, weighed to 1mg, and ether is added to fully dissolve it. Move it into the sample cooling cylinder, and then add ethanol to mix. Put the cooling filtration device in a cold bathtub at -20℃±0.5℃, cool it for 1 hour, so that the wax is fully crystallized, then pull out the column plug and filter the precipitated wax.

    - Washing and drying: Start the suction filtration device and wash the wax layer with a mixed solvent of ether-ethanol (1:1) precooled to -20℃. After draining the solvent, clean the sample cooling cylinder and stopper with petroleum ether preheated to 50-60℃. Pour the wax solution in the suction flask into a conical flask of known mass, distill off the petroleum ether and put it in a drying oven to dry. Finally, weigh it to 0.1mg.
