Lab Digital Electric Asphalt Rolling Thin Film Oven RTFO

The Thin Film Oven Test (RTFOT) is an experimental device used to simulate the aging process of asphalt under the action of heat and air. Through this Asphalt Rolling Thin Film Oven, the aging performance of asphalt caused by heat and oxidation during construction and use can be evaluated.

Main features:

1. Simulated aging: Simulate the aging process of asphalt in actual use through heating and air flow.
2. Temperature control: Accurately control the temperature, usually 163 ° C, to ensure consistency in testing conditions.
3. Rotating design: By rotating the bottle, the asphalt forms a thin film, increasing the contact area with air and accelerating the aging process.
4. Automated operation: Some models have automatic control and data recording functions to reduce human errors.

    Working principle

Simulate the performance changes of asphalt under heating and air during mixing and construction, and assess the aging performance of asphalt through a short-time test.

    Structural design

Inner liner and outer shell: The inner liner is made of stainless steel with strong heat reflection. The intelligent digital display temperature controller automatically controls the temperature, measures, and has error correction function. The outer middle layer is formed by hot plate bending, and there is silicon wool in the middle for insulation, which effectively reduces heat loss.

Heating and ventilation system: Designed for upper and lower convection heating, squirrel cage fan guides flow and controls temperature, reheats to 163℃ 10 minutes after closing the door after loading, built-in air compressor, low noise, no oil return, double-layer design, electric heating system with temperature regulator to continuously maintain the set temperature, so that the indoor air flow rotates and circulates in a certain direction under the action of forced ventilation; there are air inlet holes at the bottom and exhaust ports at the top to ensure air circulation.

Power system: The power source is an advanced permanent magnet synchronous motor and speed changer to ensure that the working turntable rotates reliably at a speed of (15±0.2) r/min.

Air supply system: There is a double-layer heat-resistant glass window on the oven door, through which the test conditions inside the oven can be observed. The oven is equipped with a small air compressor, which adjusts the flow rate through a glass rotor flowmeter, and sprays dry hot air into the sample bottle through a fully preheated ventilation pipe and nozzle, with an air supply volume of (4000±200) ml.

Temperature control system: The intelligent digital temperature controller is used for automatic temperature control and measurement, and has an error correction function. The temperature control accuracy is ±0.5℃.

    Maintenance

    1. The Bitumen Thin Film Oven can only be used for asphalt rotating film heating test, the upper temperature limit is 200℃, and the asphalt Rolling Thin Film Oven is equipped with an over-temperature protection function.

    2. After use, cut off the power supply, open the door for ventilation, and wipe off the residue in the box.

    3. Wash the sample bottle with gasoline or trichloroethylene.

    FAQ(Frequently Asked Questions)

    1. Testing Standards & Test Method Compliance
Q: Which international test methods and standard specifications does this RTFO comply with?
A: This Rolling Thin Film Oven is engineered to strictly satisfy ASTM D2872, AASHTO T240, EN 12607-1, and BS EN 12607-1. It precisely simulates the short-term thermal-oxidative aging that occurs in asphalt binders during conventional hot-mix asphalt (HMA) plant production, mixing, and laying processes.

    2. Temperature Uniformity & Recovery Performance
Q: What is the operating temperature range, control accuracy, and heat-up/recovery time?
A:Test Temperature: Standard operating point at 163.0°C ± 0.5°C (adjustable up to 200°C for custom thermal tests).
Temperature Precision: High-precision PID digital microprocessor controller with PT100 RTD sensor maintaining ±0.5°C chamber uniformity.
Thermal Recovery: Recovers to 163.0°C within 10 minutes after door closure with a full load of 8 sample bottles, meeting the mandatory ASTM/AASHTO thermal recovery limits.

    3. Carriage Rotation, Airflow System & Compressor Requirements
Q: How are the carousel rotation speed and jet airflow controlled, and do I need an external air supply?
A:Carriage Speed: High-torque motor drives the vertical rotating carousel holding 8 glass containers at a standard 15.0 ± 0.2 RPM.
Airflow Metering: Built-in calibrated precision flow meter and pressure regulator deliver a continuous dry heated air jet at 4000 ± 200 mL/min directly across the bottle openings.
Air Supply Requirement: The system requires an external clean, dry compressed air source (operating at ~2–3 bar). An optional built-in oil-free silent air compressor with moisture/particle filtration can be supplied upon request.

    4. Standard Accessories & Glassware Included
Q: What accessories and sample containers come standard with the oven?
    A: The standard shipment includes:
    8 high-borosilicate, heat-resistant glass sample bottles (64 *139.7 mm per ASTM D2872 dimensions).
ASTM 13C glass thermometer (or digital RTD temperature verification probe).
