Automatic soil direct shear test apparatus Soil Direct Shear Apparatus Soil Direct Shear Tester

This direct shear tester is used to determine the shear strength of soil. Typically, a single specimen is subjected to shear force under different vertical pressures to determine the shear stress at failure. The shear strength coefficient, internal friction angle, and cohesion are then determined using Coulomb's law. The strain-controlled direct shear tester is a standard device for determining shear strength in geotechnical testing.

    Equipment composition

    The Soil direct shear apparatus consists of a main unit for the direct shear test, a pressure control system, a direct shear data acquisition controller, an air pump, and host computer software.
    Main Structure: The shearing container consists of upper and lower shear boxes. Constant-velocity shear displacement (strain-controlled) is achieved by pushing the lower box.

    Vertical Pressurization System: Lever-type loading (lever ratio 1:12) is used, applying different vertical pressures (e.g., 1.275 kg, 2.55 kg weights) using weights.

    Horizontal Shear Force System: Shear force is measured via a push rod and a force ring. In strain-controlled systems, the lower box is moved at a constant speed by a motor; in stress-controlled systems, shear force is applied in stages.

    Auxiliary Systems: Includes a pressure control system (hydraulic or weight loading), a data acquisition controller (e.g., displacement sensor with an accuracy of 0.0002 mm), an air pump, and host computer software (for automatic data acquisition).

    The direct shear controller displays the maximum vertical pressure, shear force (the push shear uses a linear guide rail to prevent tilting), and displacement. The speed can be set. The software runs on a Windows operating system and enables automatic data extraction, storage, printing, and export.

    TECHNICAL PARAMETER

    1. Vertical Loading: 0~10KN; Accuracy: 0.005%
    2. Pressurization Method:
        Cylinder pressurization. Pressure is applied in stages according to          the specimen area, maintaining a constant pressure.
    3. Shear Force: Standard configuration 0~5KN (±10N);
        selectable shear force 0~30KN depending on specimen area.
    4. Specimen Size: Standard configuration ¢61.8×20mm;
        optional φ100mm, etc.
    5. Ultimate Displacement Stroke: 30mm; Accuracy: 0.01mm
    6. Shear Speed: 0~5mm/min; can be set arbitrarily.

    Application Areas:
    Widely used in civil engineering and geological engineering to determine the shear strength of cohesive soil, sandy soil, gravelly soil, etc. It can also be used for shear tests of composite foundations (such as gravel piles and mixing piles).
