Automatic Asphalt Marshall Compaction Machine for Bituminous Specimens

This Marshall Compaction Equipment is manufactured in accordance with the various provisions of the Ministry of Transportation industry standards "Highway Asphalt and Asphalt Mixture Test Procedures" and "Water Conservancy, Electric Power, Railway, Airport Roads". It is a special equipment for sample molding in asphalt mixture tests.Marshall Compaction Machine  is suitable for standard compaction method and is used by laboratories to conduct physical and mechanical property tests of asphalt mixtures, such as Marshall test, indirect tensile test, etc.

    Applicable Standards

    1. Asphalt mixture specimens are produced using the standard compaction method or the large-scale compaction method for laboratory testing of physical and mechanical properties of asphalt mixtures.

    2. The standard compaction method is suitable for producing cylindrical specimens measuring 101.6 mm x 87 mm, used in Marshall tests and indirect tensile tests (splitting methods). The large-scale compaction method is suitable for producing large cylindrical specimens measuring 152.4 mm x 115 mm.

    Instruments and Materials

    1. Electric Marshall Compactor: Consists of a compacting hammer, a φ98.5mm flat-round compacting head, and a guide rod with a handle. A motor drives a chain to lift the compacting hammer, which then freely drops along the guide rod from a height of (457.2±1.5) mm. The standard compacting hammer weighs (4536±9) g. The compaction count is automatically recorded.
Large Compactor: Consists of a compacting hammer, a φ149.5mm flat-round compacting head, and a guide rod with a handle. A motor drives a chain to lift the compacting hammer, which then freely drops along the guide rod from a height of (457.2±2.5) mm. The large compacting hammer weighs (10210±10) g. The compaction rate is (60±5) times/min.
    2. Standard Compaction Table: Used to secure the test mold. A 305mm x 305mm x 25mm steel plate is placed on a 200mm x 200mm x 457mm hardwood block. The block is secured to the base plate below the electric Marshall compactor using four round steel bars. The block is made of oak, pine, or other hardwood with a dry density of 0.67-0.77 g/cm³.
    3. Laboratory Automatic Asphalt Mixer: Ensures mixing temperature and ensures a uniform mix, allowing for controlled mixing time. Capacity: Minimum 20L.
    4. Electric Hydraulic Demolder: Enables the removal of cylindrical specimens without damage. Rings are available in sizes for both standard and large cylindrical specimens.
    5. Test Mold: Made of high-carbon steel or tool steel, each set includes a cylindrical metal cylinder with an inner diameter of (101.6 ± 0.2) mm and a height of 87 mm, a base (approximately 120.6 mm in diameter), and a sleeve (101.6 mm inner diameter and 70 mm in height). The test mold and sleeve are for large cylindrical specimens. The sleeve has an outer diameter of 165.1 mm, an inner diameter of (155.6 ± 0.3) mm, and an overall height of 83 mm. The test mold has an inner diameter of 152.4 mm and an overall height of 115 mm. The base plate is 12.7 mm thick and has a diameter of 172 mm.
    6. Electric Oven: One large and one medium-sized, 0-200°C, with adjustable set temperatures.
    7. Electronic Scale: For weighing mineral materials, with a sensitivity no greater than 0.5 g; for weighing asphalt, with a sensitivity no greater than 0.1 g.
    8. Asphalt kinematic viscosity tester: Capillary viscometer, Saybolt heavy oil viscometer, or Brookfield viscometer.
    9. Thermometer: infrared thermometer. Or a thermocouple asphalt thermometer with a metal stem, the metal stem should be at least 300 mm long. The measuring range should be 0-300°C, with a digital display or dial pointer graduated in 0.1°C increments and a time-lapse function.
    10. A spatula or large screwdriver, an electric furnace, an asphalt melting pot, a mixing shovel, a standard sieve, filter paper (or plain paper), adhesive tape, a caliper, a stopwatch, chalk, cotton yarn, etc.
